Indonesia backs Saudi move to ban illegal Hajj brokers

The step will tighten oversight of service contracts to curb commissions, gifts, and higher pilgrim package costs.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah RI supports Saudi Arabia's move to ban illegal brokers in Hajj service procurement. Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak said the policy aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's directive that Hajj service procurement in Saudi Arabia and Indonesia be free of brokerage. In its official circular, Saudi authorities called for integrity and validity in contracts with service companies. They also highlighted the practice of forcing the use of intermediaries, giving gifts in the form of goods, and financial commissions disguised as marketing. According to Kemenhaj, such practices risk raising package costs without improving service quality for pilgrims. Indonesia said it is ready to strengthen cooperation with Saudi authorities so procurement and contract signing proceed in line with the rules.
