Inactive Riau Governor Abdul Wahid gets 2-year prison term

Judges also imposed a Rp200 million fine and Rp1.45 billion in replacement money, far below prosecutors' 8.5-year demand.

A corruption panel at the Pekanbaru District Court on Thursday, July 30, sentenced inactive Riau Governor Abdul Wahid to two years in prison. Abdul Wahid was also ordered to pay a Rp200 million fine, with 80 days' imprisonment in lieu if unpaid, and Rp1.45 billion in replacement money. If the replacement payment is not made within one month after the ruling becomes final, his assets may be auctioned; if they are still insufficient, he will serve an additional 1 year 6 months in prison. The verdict was read by a panel led by Delta Tamtama, with judges Aziz Muslim and Edy Darma Putra. In the case, KPK prosecutors had sought 8.5 years in prison for Abdul Wahid over alleged corruption and extortion of heads of road and bridge UPT units at the Riau provincial PUPRPKP office.
