ICE agent fatally shot Mexican motorist during Houston stop

What's next: The FBI is investigating the shooting after ICE said the driver tried to ram officers during an arrest operation.

A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent fatally shot a Mexican motorist in Houston during a vehicle stop tied to a targeted enforcement operation, authorities said. ICE identified the man as Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and said officers tried to arrest him around 6:50 a.m. Tuesday. The agency said Salgado struck an ICE vehicle, ignored repeated commands and used his car in an attempt to run over an officer, prompting the agent to fire in self-defense. Salgado was taken to a hospital and later died. Telemundo Houston quoted a man identifying himself as Salgado's son as saying his father had been seeking day laborers when he was shot. Reuters said it could not independently verify the man's immigration status or the circumstances of the shooting.
