ICC states parties remove prosecutor Karim Khan from post

The ICC is now temporarily led by two deputy prosecutors as the U.S. and Israel keep pressing the court after the Netanyahu warrant.

The Assembly of States Parties to the International Criminal Court removed prosecutor Karim Khan from his post in a vote on Friday, amid sexual misconduct allegations and political pressure over his handling of Israel-related cases. Khan had previously issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant over the war in Gaza. After that, the Donald Trump administration imposed sanctions on Khan and several ICC officials and judges. Khan's legal team chief, Tayab Ali, said findings by the UN Office of Internal Oversight Services did not prove misconduct or any breach of duty by Khan. After the removal, the ICC is being led in an interim capacity by deputy prosecutors Nazhat Shameen Khan and Mame Mandiaye Niang.
