Houthi strikes kill at least 30 Yemeni troops in Marib, Hadramawt

Why it matters: The attack deepens a renewed escalation with Saudi-backed forces after a truce that had largely held since 2022.

At least 30 Yemeni government troops were killed in Houthi missile and drone strikes on military camps in Marib and Hadramawt, according to government accounts cited by BBC and Reuters. The strikes hit Emergency Forces camps in the al-Ruwaik area of Marib and the al-Abr area of Hadramawt, with officials warning the death toll could rise. The Houthis claimed they targeted Saudi military deployments and said the operation followed what they described as a Saudi build-up ahead of a new offensive. Yemen's Health Minister Qasim Bahibah ordered medical facilities in both provinces to prepare for wounded soldiers. The attack comes after the Houthis declared a maritime embargo on Saudi Arabia and carried out recent strikes on airports, oil facilities and tankers.
