Houthi drone hits Aramco Jazan refinery, fire extinguished

Houthi claimed a drone attack on Saudi Aramco's refinery in Jazan, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday, Aug. 9, and Saudi later reported that a fire at the facility had been extinguished with no injuries. The Saudi Energy Ministry did not explain the cause of the blaze, but said the relevant authorities had completed their response at the refinery, which processes 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the strike hit its target and described it as retaliation for Saudi drone flights over Saada and Hajjah. Jazan, on the Red Sea coast near the Yemen border, has been targeted several times before. The latest attack comes as tensions between Houthi, Saudi Arabia and the Yemen government have risen again, including attacks on Al Makha and a maritime blockade in the Red Sea.
