House passes housing bill 358-32, sending affordability push to Trump
What's next: Trump is expected to sign the measure Wednesday after the Senate cleared it 85-5, capping a rare bipartisan deal.
The House on Tuesday gave final approval to a sweeping bipartisan housing bill, voting 358-32 to send the measure to President Donald Trump for his signature. The Senate passed the legislation 85-5 on Monday.
The bill aims to lower housing costs by cutting federal regulations, speeding environmental reviews and construction, expanding financing, and encouraging modular housing. It also adds renter protections, boosts homelessness programs, and offers funding to local governments that increase homebuilding or convert abandoned infrastructure into housing.
Lawmakers cast the package as one of Congress' biggest housing affordability efforts in decades as high prices, rent increases and limited supply weigh on voters ahead of the midterm elections.
