Hari Santri 2026 Promotes Stronger Literacy in Pesantren
The call comes amid low national literacy and concerns that digital spaces are being used to spread extremist propaganda.
The 2026 National Santri Day commemoration was used to push stronger literacy in pesantren. DPR Commission X member Abdul Fikri Faqih urged santri to broaden the reading tradition beyond holy texts to include science books, prose, poetry and fiction, so their knowledge grows and they become more sensitive to social issues. In Cirebon, UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon professor KH Didin Nurul Rosidin said pesantren also need to strengthen digital literacy among young people amid the rise of violent extremist propaganda. He said learning methods such as sorogan, bandongan and musyawarah shape a moderate outlook, while cooperation with BNPT is seen as important for prevention.
