Halal requirement to take effect Oct. 18, 2026 without delay
BPJPH says there will be no field sweeps and warns businesses about scams using bogus certification fines.
The government has ensured that the halal certification requirement will still take effect on Oct. 18, 2026, without delay. Ahead of the deadline, the Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal (BPJPH) is preparing special rules for certain cases, especially micro and small businesses, imported products, raw materials and consumer goods, to keep implementation orderly and avoid disrupting business continuity. BPJPH head Ahmad Haikal Hasan said the policy carries out Undang-Undang Nomor 33 Tahun 2014 on Jaminan Produk Halal. He also said there will be no policy of sweeping against businesses in the field. BPJPH urged the public to watch for parties claiming to represent the agency and asking for money on the pretext of fines, sanctions or handling halal obligations. Separately, the Kementerian Agama will involve KUA, penghulu, religious counselors, mosques and networks down to the subdistrict level for outreach before the rules take effect.
