A passenger ferry carrying 116 passengers and 17 crew members capsized off Guyana late Saturday, leaving dozens unaccounted for as rescuers searched through Sunday. The MV Barima sent a distress call at 11:01 p.m. local time before it went down near Iron Punt on its route toward Port Kaituma. Authorities said 67 people had been rescued, including 15 children. Prime Minister Mark Phillips said the operation would continue until all efforts were exhausted, while emergency family assistance centers were opened for relatives seeking information. Public Works Minister Juan Edghill said the vessel carried 250 life jackets, two rigid life crafts and six inflatable life crafts.
