Google adds selfie-video sign-in for account recovery

Google on July 23 rolled out a selfie-video sign-in option for eligible Google Account users, adding a new way to log in or recover access after forgotten passwords or lost devices. Users record a short video while following guided head movements, and Google stores it to compare against future live videos submitted during sign-in attempts. The company said users must consent to storage and can delete the video from their account at any time. Google said the recording will be used only for sign-in unless a user separately opts in to other uses. The company said it also runs checks for impersonation, including deepfakes, and requires movements that help confirm the video is live.
