M5.2 quake shakes Talaud after shallow quakes near Tahuna
BMKG placed the epicenter in the sea at a depth of 10 km, and none of the quakes has triggered a tsunami so far.
A magnitude 5.2 earthquake shook the Talaud Islands, North Sulawesi, on Saturday at 09.05 WIB, amid a series of shallow quakes earlier recorded near Tahuna, Sangihe Islands Regency, on Saturday night. BMKG placed the Talaud epicenter about 230 kilometers northwest of the islands at coordinates 5.72 LU and 125.5 BT, with a depth of 10 kilometers. Earlier, BMKG recorded at least four quakes near Tahuna with magnitudes from 3.1 to 4.5, including a M4.5 quake at 22.45 WIB. The Tahuna quakes were located about 188 to 202 kilometers northwest of the area, at depths of 10 to 42 kilometers. BMKG said all of the quakes had no tsunami potential and urged residents to remain alert for aftershocks.
