FIFA allows fans to bring 1 water bottle to 2026 World Cup
Only unopened 590 ml soft plastic bottles will be allowed; hard refillable bottles remain banned on safety grounds.
FIFA has eased its baggage rules for the 2026 World Cup by allowing each spectator to bring one factory-sealed, single-use soft plastic water bottle of 20 ounces, or 590 milliliters, into stadiums in the United States and Canada. The policy follows criticism that the earlier ban could put fans' health at risk during a summer tournament. FIFA is still banning hard refillable bottles on security grounds, saying they could be thrown at players, opposing fans or staff. The tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico also faces temperatures above 32 degrees Celsius, along with the risk of storms and lightning.
