Family seeks outside probe after ICE officer kills man in Houston
What's new: Federal authorities have not released video, while relatives say the Mexican father had no criminal convictions.
The family of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo is demanding an independent investigation after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer fatally shot him Tuesday in Houston's Magnolia Park neighborhood. The Department of Homeland Security said Salgado Araujo ignored commands and tried to ram an officer with his vehicle, prompting the officer to fire in self-defense. His son, Ronaldo Salgado, and U.S. Rep. Sylvia Garcia said he had lived in the United States for decades without criminal convictions and was driving a work crew to a homebuilding site when he was shot. A bystander video showed a wounded, handcuffed man on the ground and at least three other detained men nearby. Federal officials have not released body-camera or other footage of the shooting.
