Ex-White House teleprompter operator owes $172,000 in Trump speech bets

What's new: The CFTC also barred Gabriel Perez from trading for three years after finding he used advance access to presidential remarks.

A former White House teleprompter operator must pay more than $172,000 after federal regulators found he used advance knowledge of President Donald Trump’s speeches to place bets on Kalshi prediction markets. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission ordered Gabriel Perez to give up $107,539.02 in profits and pay a $65,000 civil penalty. The agency said Perez placed trades tied to what Trump would say in speeches from December 2025 through February 2026, breaching a duty of trust and confidence. The CFTC reduced the penalty because of what it called exemplary cooperation. Perez was also banned from trading for three years. Kalshi said it detected unusual activity in speech “mention markets” and referred the matter to regulators.
