Ex-IRAS investigator faces 21 charges over taxpayer data access

A former Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore principal tax investigator was charged Wednesday with unlawfully accessing taxpayer records for friends and acquaintances. Mansur, also known as Thio Shuang Long, 49, faces 20 counts under the Computer Misuse and Cybersecurity Act and one count under the Official Secrets Act. Prosecutors allege he used his IRAS account between May 2014 and January 2016 to retrieve tax information on individuals and companies. Loh Chee Wee, 50, a director of Transstar Asia, was separately charged under the Official Secrets Act for allegedly receiving protected information about whether a company sharing office space with Transstar Asia was under IRAS investigation in July 2014. Neither man entered a plea.
