England's Jordan Henderson ruled out after wrist surgery at World Cup
What's next: England heads to its quarterfinal against Norway without the veteran midfielder after he was hurt celebrating the 3-2 win over Mexico.
England midfielder Jordan Henderson is out for the rest of the World Cup after choosing surgery on the wrist he injured while celebrating his team's 3-2 round-of-16 win over Mexico at Estadio Azteca. Henderson, 36, fell awkwardly over an advertising board as players went to celebrate with fans and was taken from the field on a stretcher. Thomas Tuchel said after the match that the injury looked serious, and Henderson was taken to a hospital in Mexico City rather than returning with the squad. England flew back to its base in Kansas City and will face Norway in the quarterfinals on Saturday without Henderson.
