Edin Dzeko stays with Schalke through June 2027
The 40-year-old striker reportedly turned down offers from Serie A, MLS and other Bundesliga clubs after helping Schalke win promotion.
Edin Dzeko has extended his contract with Schalke 04 by one year, keeping him at the club through June 2027. Fabrizio Romano reported that the 40-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina forward chose to remain in Gelsenkirchen despite offers from Serie A clubs, Major League Soccer and several other Bundesliga teams. Dzeko arrived on a free transfer from Fiorentina in January 2026 on a short deal through the end of the 2025/26 season. In the second half of the season, he scored six goals and helped Schalke win the Bundesliga 2 title and secure automatic promotion to the Bundesliga. The extension also returns Dzeko to Germany's top flight, a competition he won with Wolfsburg in the 2008/09 season.
