DPR’s Commission III speeds Asset Forfeiture Bill over 3 sessions

The bill is now a priority, with DPR hearing 24 civil groups and weighing limits to prevent abuse of power.

Commission III of the DPR continued deliberations on the Asset Forfeiture Bill and denied accusations that parliament was refusing to pass it. Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman said the discussions have run for three session periods and that on Monday, July 13, 2026, the commission held a public hearing at the DPR complex in Jakarta. The DPR invited 24 elements of society, including academics, students and the Perhimpunan Advokat Indonesia, to provide input. According to Habiburokhman, the bill is being prioritized because Indonesia still has no specific rule on the forfeiture or recovery of assets from corruption. Issues under discussion include limits on law enforcement authority to prevent abuse of power, the possible creation of an agency to manage seized assets, and a proposal to use the term “asset recovery” or pemulihan aset.
