DPR Pushes Competitive Incentives to Attract Global Capital

The PFII’s derivative rules will test whether incentives, legal certainty and simpler regulation can rival Singapore and Dubai.

DPR Commission XI Chairman Mukhamad Misbakhun urged the government to prepare competitive incentives after the Indonesia International Financial Center Law (PFII) is enacted. He said PFII is needed so Indonesia does not rely only on domestic financing, but can tap global capital flows through legal certainty, regulatory efficiency and ease of doing business. BRIN researcher Syahrir Ika warned that fiscal incentives alone are not enough. Investors, he said, also weigh political stability, policy consistency, regulatory quality, infrastructure and business certainty. He said Indonesia will compete with financial hubs such as Singapore, Dubai, Malaysia and Vietnam. Both also stressed that the government must preserve fiscal space and draw up credible implementing rules so PFII can have a real impact on financial markets and investment.
