DPR begins limited deliberations on Election Law revision

DPR will hear nonparliament parties and speed the early process before the KPU selection committee starts work in October.

DPR has begun preparing a limited deliberation on revisions to Law No. 7 of 2017 on Elections, with a leadership and consultative body meeting next week to discuss forming a special committee. Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said all factions have agreed to start the talks, while a schedule to absorb input from nonparliament parties, which was delayed during the recess, is also set to proceed. Dasco said the initial revision process needs to be accelerated before the committee to select KPU members begins work in October. In Commission II, DPR has drawn up 28 problem inventories from a series of hearings with election experts and observers, although formal deliberations are still awaiting the green light from DPR leaders.
