DPR to weigh possible 2027 hajj fee increase, 60:40 plan

Kemenhaj proposes shifting the cost split to 40% paid by pilgrims and 60% from BPKH investment returns.

DPR is scheduled to discuss the 2027 hajj implementation cost with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah on July 7, amid projections that expenses will rise from this year. Commission VIII Chairman Marwan Dasopang said an increase would be hard to avoid because service prices in Saudi Arabia are rising and the rupiah is weakening against the U.S. dollar. Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf also sees room for an increase, driven by jet fuel prices, Saudi service tariffs, and a shift in service from Category D to Category C. At the same time, Kemenhaj has proposed changing the financing composition: about 40 percent paid by pilgrims and 60 percent from the returns on funds managed by BPKH. MUI Deputy Chairman Cholil Nafis said the plan could be applied as long as the returns come from the funds of pilgrims who are going on the trip, not by cutting into the rights of those still on the waiting list. BPIH 2026 was set at Rp87,4 juta per pilgrim.
