Djokovic falls in 1st round of US Open after 5-set loss to Navone

What's new: The 24-time major champion vomited, cramped and took a medical timeout before the match ended just before midnight in New York.

Novak Djokovic crashed out of the U.S. Open in the first round for the first time, losing to Argentina's Mariano Navone 7-6 (5), 5-7, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 in New York on Sunday night. The five-set match lasted 4 hours, 36 minutes and became Djokovic's earliest exit at a Grand Slam since the 2006 Australian Open. Djokovic, 39, said he vomited, dealt with cramping and felt pain spread through his body, back and shoulder. He took pills from a doctor and had treatment between the fourth and fifth sets. Navone, 25, capitalized as Djokovic faded late, closing out a result that ended the Serbian star's 19-0 record in U.S. Open first-round matches.
