Desabumi raises Rp100 juta for West Kalimantan wildfire victims
Aid will be delivered Oct. 10-13 to Kayong Utara and Ketapang, with volunteers facing a 16-hour trip from Pontianak.
Yayasan Desabumi, together with Society of Renewable Energy (SRE) Indonesia and volunteers, has raised Rp100 juta in aid for residents affected by forest and land fires in Kalimantan Barat. The assistance is scheduled to be delivered on 10-13 Oktober 2026 to Pulau Datok, Kabupaten Kayong Utara, and Desa Ulak Medang, Kabupaten Ketapang. Volunteers from Desabumi and the SRE Tanjungpura community will make the roughly 16-hour journey from Pontianak by land and sea. The aid packages include staple food items, basic necessities, logistics and transport support, and briefings for volunteers. In a dialogue with firefighters, volunteers also heard about the challenges of peatland fires, where flames can spread beneath the ground surface and reappear elsewhere.
