Daycare Little Aresha abuse case in Yogyakarta grows to 27 suspects

Newly added suspects include 10 caregivers, a guard, an admin and housekeeping staff; 13 initial case files have been cleared for prosecution.

Police added 14 suspects in the alleged abuse and neglect of children at Daycare Little Aresha in Yogyakarta, bringing the total to 27 people. The new suspects include 10 caregivers, a security guard, an admin and housekeeping staff. Ipda Apri Sawitri, head of the child protection unit at Polresta Yogyakarta criminal investigation division, said the caregivers were suspected of taking part in the abuse, while the guard and other staff were suspected of allowing it to happen. The case came to light after a late-April raid, when police found dozens of children aged two to six with their hands and feet tied, some fastened to a door. Police also said the daycare operated without a permit. Meanwhile, the 13 initial suspects, including the foundation owner and the principal, have been declared P21 and will soon be handed over to court.
