Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley won Wisconsin's Democratic primary for governor, narrowly defeating state Rep. Francesca Hong after reviving a campaign he had briefly suspended. The Associated Press called the race for Crowley, who relaunched his bid with support from outgoing Gov. Tony Evers after low polling and fundraising setbacks.
Crowley, 40, now advances to a general election against U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany, a Trump-backed Republican who won his party's primary decisively. If elected in November, Crowley would become Wisconsin's first Black governor. The result is also a setback for progressives after Hong, a democratic socialist, gained momentum in a race that exposed tensions inside the state's Democratic Party.
