Dukcapil data to anchor e-government, covering nearly 99% of citizens

Kemendagri is linking births with health facilities so newborn birth certificates can be issued online immediately after delivery.

Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian said the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration database will become the backbone of an electronic government system and interagency data integration. At the Dukcapil national coordination meeting in Jakarta on Monday, Tito said the data covers about 290 million to 297 million people, or nearly 99% of the population, and is updated in real time. The database also includes biometrics such as facial recognition, fingerprints and iris scans. The government is preparing to strengthen digital infrastructure, including bandwidth, backup systems and ISO 27001-standard security. Tito also said birth certificate services will be connected to Health Ministry facilities so birth data goes directly to Dukcapil and certificates can be issued online.
