Darline Graham won South Carolina's Republican Senate runoff on Tuesday, defeating Rep. Ralph Norman to become the party's nominee for the seat once held by her late brother, Lindsey Graham. With nearly all votes counted, Graham had 52.5% of the vote, according to CBS News, the BBC's US partner. She was appointed to the Senate in July after Lindsey Graham died suddenly and had never before run for elected office. President Donald Trump traveled to South Carolina to campaign for her, and the result is likely to be read as another sign of his sway in Republican primaries. Graham now advances to the November election, where she is widely expected to win in a state that has not elected a Democrat to the Senate for decades.
