Darline Graham enters South Carolina Senate race with Trump backing

What's next: A weeklong filing period opens Tuesday ahead of the Aug. 11 Republican special primary to replace Lindsey Graham.

Sen. Darline Graham will run for a full six-year term in South Carolina, turning her temporary appointment to her late brother Lindsey Graham’s seat into a bid for the Republican nomination. Gov. Henry McMaster appointed her last week to serve the rest of the term, which ends in January. President Donald Trump has already endorsed her. The race is moving quickly: filing opens Tuesday for the special GOP primary on Aug. 11. Rep. Russell Fry said Monday he will enter, and Rep. Ralph Norman has already joined the contest, while other Republicans including Nancy Mace and Pamela Evette have weighed bids. Darline Graham said she wants to focus more on prices, health care and other domestic issues.
