Darline Graham advances to Aug. 25 GOP Senate runoff in South Carolina

What's next: She faces Rep. Ralph Norman in a runoff for a seat Republicans are favored to keep in November.

Darline Graham, the sister of late Sen. Lindsey Graham, advanced Tuesday to an Aug. 25 runoff for the Republican nomination for South Carolina's U.S. Senate seat. With about 80% of the vote counted, the Associated Press placed Graham first with 32.6% and U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman second with just over 24%, after no candidate cleared the 50% needed to avoid a runoff. Gov. Henry McMaster appointed Graham to serve out the remainder of her brother's term through early January after his death from a heart ailment. President Donald Trump backed Graham's bid for a full six-year term. The Republican nominee is widely favored in November against Democrat Annie Andrews, a pediatrician who had more than $3 million in campaign funds at the start of July.
