Danantara begins building Bali waste-to-energy plant, target 2027

The Pedungan facility is designed to process 1,500 tons of trash a day and provide electricity for about 100,000 homes.

Danantara Indonesia began construction of a waste-to-energy facility in Pedungan village, South Denpasar, Bali, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. The project, carried out through PT Danantara Investment Management and PT Daya Energi Bersih Nusantara, is the first waste-to-energy project in Indonesia. Bali Governor Wayan Koster said construction is targeted for completion in October 2027 and operations in December 2027, while Danantara is preparing for an early 2028 startup. The facility is designed to process 1,500 tons of waste per day, or more than 500,000 tons a year, using moving grate incinerator technology that meets European emissions standards. Danantara also signed a power purchase agreement with PT PLN (Persero). The project is valued at about Rp3 trillion and is expected to create 1,200 green jobs.
