Dammam attack disrupts Riyadh flights, Jeddah-Madinah normal
Foreign Ministry says about 49,000 Indonesian umrah pilgrims in Saudi Arabia are safe, while KJRI Jeddah keeps airport staff on 24-hour duty.
An attack at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, disrupted flight operations, especially in the Riyadh area, while flights in Jeddah and Madinah continued as normal. Heni Hamidah, director for the protection of Indonesian citizens at the Indonesian Foreign Ministry, said all Indonesian nationals, including Indonesian migrant workers and umrah pilgrims, were safe. The Foreign Ministry said about 49,000 Indonesian umrah pilgrims are currently in Saudi Arabia. To anticipate flight disruptions, KJRI Jeddah has stationed officers at the airport around the clock to monitor the possibility of pilgrims being stranded. According to Saudi authorities, the attack early Wednesday killed one person and injured eight others. The General Authority of Civil Aviation said the injured were taken to hospital.
