Cyclospora outbreak tied to lettuce spreads to 9 US states

A multistate cyclospora outbreak linked to shredded iceberg lettuce has expanded to nine states, with federal investigators focusing on product supplied by Taylor Farms from a facility in central Mexico. The newly linked states are Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania, joining Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia and Michigan. The CDC said 1,947 infected people reported eating at Taco Bell, which removed the affected lettuce from restaurants. Taylor Farms voluntarily recalled all iceberg lettuce sourced from its Guanajuato plant on July 17. Michigan has been hit hardest, with state officials reporting more than 8,100 infections. The FDA is still investigating after retracting an earlier statement that tested lettuce was positive, calling that result a false positive.
