Court hears Charlie Kirk suspect regretted shooting, planned surrender

What's next: A Utah judge will hear final arguments before deciding by Sept. 1 whether Tyler Robinson will stand trial.

A former roommate of Tyler Robinson told prosecutors that Robinson admitted killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk, cried and said he wished he had not done it, according to a video interview played in a Utah court on July 9. The testimony came during a preliminary hearing to determine whether Robinson, 31, will stand trial on seven charges, including aggravated murder, in the Sept. 10, 2025, shooting at Utah Valley University in Orem. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. The roommate, Lance Twiggs, also described text messages in which Robinson wrote, “I am. I’m sorry,” and said he had “had enough of his hatred.” Judge Tony Graf is expected to hear written arguments before a Sept. 1 hearing.
