Connecticut Democrats test Lamont, Larson in primary fights
What's at stake: Upsets could extend a progressive anti-incumbent streak ahead of the midterm elections.
Connecticut voters headed to the polls Tuesday with two closely watched Democratic primaries testing whether the party's anti-incumbent mood will reach the state. Gov. Ned Lamont is seeking a third term but faces a challenge from state Rep. Josh Elliott, while longtime U.S. Rep. John Larson is defending his seat against former Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin, Ruth Fortune and Jillian Gilchrest. Lamont put $9.5 million of his own money into the race, far outpacing Elliott, who also received about $3.8 million in public financing. Larson, first elected in 1998, is facing his first primary since that year as questions about age and party direction animate the contest in the heavily Democratic 1st District.
