Carrick fights to steady Manchester United before Bournemouth test
What's next: A home loss Sunday would extend United's winless run to eight games and deepen scrutiny of Carrick's future.
Manchester United coach Michael Carrick pushed back on claims the club has become impossible to manage as he tried to halt mounting pressure before Sunday's Premier League home game against Bournemouth. United have gone seven matches without a win, and a 4-1 Champions League loss at Como intensified criticism of the team's form and tactics. Carrick also answered complaints that his side does not press enough, arguing pressing is only one part of the game and not the sole measure of performance. Tension has grown after senior players Lisandro Martinez and Bruno Fernandes criticized recruitment and tactics. Carrick said he remains in regular contact with former United managers Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Alex Ferguson as he tries to turn the run around.
