Car bomb kills eastern Libya intelligence chief in Benghazi

A car bomb killed Brigadier Fowzi Mansouri, the head of military intelligence for eastern Libya’s Libyan National Army, outside his home in Benghazi on Sunday. Security sources said an explosive device detonated in Mansouri’s car in the Hawari district during the evening. No group immediately claimed responsibility, and the sources gave no further details about the bomb. The killing points to continuing security risks in Libya, where armed groups and rival administrations still wield power years after a 2020 ceasefire stopped major fighting. The Libyan National Army, led by Khalifa Haftar, holds much of eastern and southern Libya, while the internationally recognized Government of National Unity is based in Tripoli and controls much of the west.
