Canada hits back with tariffs up to 50% on C$28 billion in US goods

Canada imposed retaliatory tariffs of 15%, 25% and 50% on nearly C$28 billion worth of U.S. goods after trade talks with Washington collapsed and the Trump administration moved ahead with 50% levies on Canadian imports. The Canadian measures, due to take effect Sept. 8, cover products including steel, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper, electronics, furniture, fresh tuna and cotton T-shirts. Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne said the package was designed to match the value of Canadian goods targeted by the United States. Ottawa also earmarked an additional C$7.5 billion in support programs to limit job losses and help companies manage the escalating trade fight.
