PNM Mekaar rate cut to 8% for 10–15 million borrowers

The move will require the government to add about 10% in subsidies, but economists say sales will not rise without support and market access.

The government lowered PNM Mekaar financing rates to 8 percent a year from a range of 18–25 percent during the Optimalisasi Kredit Program Semester I 2026 coordination meeting in Jakarta on Monday, June 22. The policy applies to about 10 million to 15 million borrowers of the unsecured loan service owned by PT Permodalan Nasional Madani, part of BRI Group, which targets ultra-micro entrepreneurs from low-income families, especially women. Indef economist M. Rizal Taufikurahman said the move would ease business cash flow. But he warned that cheaper capital alone is not enough to improve welfare without mentoring, training and access to marketing.
