Bulog readies premium SPHP rice as prices hit Rp16.000/kg
Pricing is still awaiting a government meeting, with the Rp14.900 per kilogram premium rice ceiling among the references.
Perum Bulog is preparing premium rice under the Food Supply and Price Stabilization Program, or SPHP, for market operations after premium rice prices reached Rp16.000 per kilogram in several regions. Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani said the proposal had been submitted to Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman and Food Coordinating Minister Zulkifli Hasan. The product is proposed under the Beras Kita brand as a complement to SPHP, which has so far sold only medium rice. Bulog said market operations with medium rice are less effective when premium rice prices are the ones rising. The selling price and allocation of premium SPHP rice have not been set because the plan is still awaiting a government coordination meeting. Bulog said the Rp14.900 per kilogram HET and production costs will be taken into account before the distribution scheme is decided.
