Brisbane chef lost job after 3rd refusal to serve pineapple pizza

An Italian chef in Brisbane lost his job after repeatedly refusing to put pineapple on pizza, including at a customer function, according to an Australia Fair Work Commission ruling. Davide Tamburella was dismissed from La Costa in May after management raised concerns about his behavior, communication style and foul language, not only the pizza dispute. The ruling said Tamburella had refused the topping three times in four years and argued that making such pizzas was offensive to his culture. His unfair-dismissal claim failed because it was lodged late. The tribunal also heard the restaurant stopped pursuing visa sponsorship for him after his firing.
