Brigpol Fredi Lukas Awes killed in Yahukimo stabbing
Police are still hunting the attacker and probing the motive after the victim was found in Dekai on Monday night.
Brigpol Fredi Lukas Awes, a BKO member of Satgas Operasi Damai Cartenz 2026, was found dead at Kompleks Jalan Pertanian Halabok Paradiso Belakang, Distrik Dekai, Kabupaten Yahukimo, Papua Pegunungan, on Monday (20/7) night. Authorities said the victim’s body had multiple sharp-force wounds and suspected he was assaulted by unidentified people. The body was taken to RSUD Dekai for a medical examination, then flown to Kota Jayapura and placed at the funeral home. A joint team from Satgas Operasi Damai Cartenz, Polres Yahukimo, and BKO Brimob Yon B Polda Papua has processed the scene, questioned witnesses, and is pursuing the attackers to determine the motive.
