BPS: Homeownership backlog fell to 9.29 million in 2026
The uninhabitable-housing backlog also fell to 18.01 million households, though it remains nearly twice the homeownership shortfall.
Badan Pusat Statistik recorded the homeownership backlog at 9.29 million households in March 2026, down from 9.64 million a year earlier. In percentage terms, the figure fell from 13 percent to 12.39 percent, based on the March 2026 National Socioeconomic Survey. At the same time, the livability backlog — households living in homes they own but that are not habitable — also declined from 18.77 million to 18.01 million households, or from 25.33 percent to 24.03 percent. BPS head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said both indicators improved, but the livability backlog remained far larger. The data are used together with the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas to support the Program 3 Juta Rumah and a higher target for Bantuan Stimulan Perumahan Swadaya.
