BPOM seizes 2,205 illegal cosmetic items worth Rp35.8 billion
More than 90% of the findings were imported products, with the largest values coming from Tangerang, Bogor and Jakarta.
BPOM found and followed up on 2,205 items, or 2,127,765 pieces, of illegal cosmetics with an estimated value of Rp35.8 billion during an intensified inspection from 11-22 Mei 2026. BPOM chief Taruna Ikrar said 86.8% of the findings were cosmetics without distribution permits, while more than 90% were imported products. Of 190 production and distribution facilities inspected, 128, or 67.4%, did not meet requirements. The largest findings came from Tangerang at Rp27.6 billion, followed by Bogor at Rp4.6 billion and Jakarta at Rp2.3 billion. BPOM also monitored 9,042 of 9,617 online sales links and recommended removing the links to the Ministry of Communication and Digital and idEA.
