Booker calls Trump Iran MOU an 'abject surrender' after war

What's new: The New Jersey senator said the deal handed Iran major economic benefits and left Washington with less leverage.

Sen. Cory Booker forcefully criticized President Donald Trump's new memorandum of understanding with Iran on Sunday, calling it an "abject surrender" after the U.S. moved to end the war with Tehran. In an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press," Booker said Trump should not get credit for ending a conflict that Democrats argue he mishandled from the start. Booker said the agreement gave Iran "billions and billions of dollars of benefits" while weakening U.S. leverage. He also raised concern about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after NBC News reported U.S. intelligence officials were warning Israel could take steps to undermine the emerging agreement. Booker said he had voted eight times to end the war.
