BNPB issues 8 preparedness steps for 2026/2027 rainy season
Local governments are told to set up 24-hour command posts, strengthen early warnings and file regular reports to BNPB.
BNPB issued eight preparedness steps to face the 2026/2027 rainy season and sent them to governors, regents and mayors across Indonesia. The policy, set out in BNPB Head Circular No. 4 of 2026 and signed by BNPB Chief Kristomei Sianturi on Oct. 30, 2026, was drawn up after BMKG forecast that most of Indonesia would enter the rainy season in late 2026 to early 2027. The anticipated risks include floods, landslides, strong winds and high waves. The steps cover mapping vulnerable areas, readiness of personnel, equipment and logistics, weather monitoring, strengthening early warning systems, pentahelix coordination, 24-hour emergency posts, education on self-evacuation, physical mitigation such as clearing drainage channels and normalizing rivers, and periodic situation reports to BNPB.
