BMKG: Most major Indonesian cities cloudy to rainy this weekend
BMKG also warned of heavy rain with lightning and strong winds in Padang, Tanjung Pinang and Tanjung Selor.
BMKG forecast most major cities in Indonesia will see cloudy to light rain through the weekend, with several areas at risk of moderate to heavy downpours. On Friday, thunderstorms are expected in Medan, while on Saturday a heavy rain warning with lightning and strong winds applies to Tanjung Pinang, Padang and Tanjung Selor. On Sunday, thunderstorms are forecast in Pekanbaru, Pontianak and Tanjung Selor, while Mamuju could see moderate rain. BMKG said the pattern is being driven by convergence zones stretching from the eastern Pacific Ocean east of the Philippines to the Indian Ocean west of Sumatera, which support the growth of rain clouds. Jakarta is among the areas forecast to shift from partly cloudy or cloudy skies to light rain over the weekend.
