Bloomberg ordered to pay S$290,000 in costs in Singapore libel case
What's new: The order came after a High Court judge had already awarded S$230,000 in damages to each of the two ministers.
Bloomberg and reporter Low De Wei were ordered to pay a total of S$290,000 in legal costs to Singapore ministers K. Shanmugam and Tan See Leng after losing a defamation case over a December 2024 article on luxury home deals. Justice Audrey Lim awarded S$145,000 to each minister after a July 30 hearing, with S$50,000 for pre-trial work, S$65,000 for the 6 1/2-day trial and S$30,000 for post-trial work. Earlier in July, the High Court awarded S$230,000 in damages to each minister. Lim found the article tied their good class bungalow transactions to secrecy, opacity and possible money laundering, and said Bloomberg's removal of the paywall showed malice.
