BGN Suspends Karangturi SPPG After 707 Suspected MBG Poisonings
Thirteen victims remain in treatment as investigators await lab results on suspected triggering ingredients in five to seven days.
The National Nutrition Agency temporarily halted SPPG Karangturi service in Semarang, Central Java, after 707 people were suspected of food poisoning in the Makan Bergizi Gratis program. Data from the Semarang Health Agency showed the victims included 693 students and 14 teachers at SMK Negeri 6 Semarang who ate the food on Friday, July 31, 2026. Sudaryono, head of BGN, said 13 people were still being treated at hospitals and community health centers, while most victims reported dizziness, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. An initial investigation pointed to several food items, including cassava leaves and rendang seasoning, as well as cooking that was allegedly done too early before distribution. BGN is awaiting laboratory test results in about five to seven working days while reviewing the partner, foundation, SPPG and field coordinators involved.
