Clash on Jalan Tambak Menteng leaves 1 dead, 3 detained
Police denied social media claims of damage to a house of worship; another victim remains critical and the cause is still under investigation.
A clash on Jalan Tambak, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Sunday morning left one person dead, injured another critically, and prompted police to detain three people for questioning. The incident occurred around 10.00 WIB. Police said the fighting began with a dispute between residents and several people occupying vacant land at the site. Investigators also found burned buildings and vehicles and are still processing the scene to determine what burned and why. Menteng Police Chief Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu also denied social media rumors of damage to a house of worship after checking the site and coordinating with local administrators. No suspects have been named so far.
